Mid-Autumn Lantern Displays and Carnivals

Although the Mid-Autumn Festival falls on 27th September this year, the city cannot wait to start the celebration of this event which symbolises reunion. It is believed that at that night the moon would be the brightest and roundest.

You may see shops selling mooncakes and lanterns on the streets. It has been a tradition that Chinese would gather with their family members at the night of the festival. Yummy mooncakes and glowing colourful lanterns are essential parts of the celebration other than appreciating the moon.

If you are a festival-goer, do not miss the lantern displays which spread over different districts of the city. Whilst the grandest lantern carnival in Victoria Park starts on 23rd September, lantern display in Tsim Sha Tsui lasts for more than one month from 10th September to 18th October.

Other than lantern display, traditional music and dance performance, silhouette cutting art and various participatory activities will be arranged in the carnivals. Just immerse yourself in the festival atmosphere and enjoy the events under moonlights!
