Tai Tung Shan

Tai Tung Shan

Located in Lantau Island, Tai Tung Shan is the third highest peak in Hong Kong. Though it is well known as its stunning sunset views, the great thing never come easily. With a height of 869 metres above the sea level, visitors have to walk uphill for thousand steps in order to arrive the peak.

A number of stone houses erected in the peak between Sunset Peak and Yi Tung Shan. It is believed that these stone houses were built by a group of foreign missionaries for the purpose of staying at summer resort in 1920s. Each house has its own number and equipped with water tank and electricity was available in house at that time. For now, these stone houses have become a very popular scenic spots of shooting. 

Remember to well prepare before you set out on this journey! Bring enough food as it will be crucial for you to recover after a long and tough walk uphill. Bring enough clothes as temperature dwindles when you walk higher. More importantly, do not leave your garbage here and please protect this fascinating place from pollution.


How to get there

From starting point:
MTR Tung Chung Station, Exit B. From the bus terminus next to the MTR station, take bus 11, (or bus 3M from Mui Wo bus terminus if you take a ferry to Mui Wo), to Pak Kung Au. Turn left to The pavilion, and then turn left onto the Lantau Trail, which leads to Sunset Peak.

From end point: 
Take bus 3M to MTR Tung Chung Station or Mui Wo Bus Terminus.
