Five Places for Picnic in HK

You might realise that the glow of autumn is spreading slowly over the city. It is the perfect time of year for metropolitans to go for picnic and relax as the grass blows in the wind. Guess it was almost impossible to find a place for picnic in a densely populated city like Hong Kong? We recommend five places which are ideal for weekend picnic:

West Kowloon Waterfront Promenade

If you want to find an accessible and convenient place, West Kowloon Waterfront Promenade is the best option for you. It takes only 10 minutes’ walk apart from Kowloon MTR Station. You may sit on the grass and enjoy the cool breeze and harbour view. Rent a bicycle and pedal along the coastline if you want to do some exercise.

Jordan Valley Park

It is hard to imagine there is such a great lawn in the city. It takes less than 15 minutes to reach the Park from Choi Hung MTR station by taxi. The 6.3 hectares large park consists of radio-controlled model car circuit, children’s play areas, green house and maze garden. Other than picnicking, it is an ideal place for a wide range of recreational activities.

Tai Po Waterfront Park

Being the largest park managed by the Leisure and Cultural Department, Tai Po Waterfront Park allows visitors to have a panoramic view of the Tolo Harbour from the highest point of the Spiral Lookout Tower. Besides having picnic on the lawn, it is also a good idea to fly a kite in the autumn breeze as you run across the grass.

Nam Sang Wai

Nam Sang Wai is a wetland surrounded by Shan Pui River and Kam Tin River. If you are enthusiastic in wildlife, you would love this place where you can observe birds, mudskippers and fiddler crabs. Walking along the tree path, visitors will arrive at a large picnic area. The landscape of abandoned fish ponds and farms, together with wooden huts would create a stunning picture of rural villages.

Inspiration Lake

Inspiration Lake Recreation Centre is managed by Hong Kong Disneyland yet it is free for public. Here you can find the largest artificial lake in Hong Kong. Feature with waterfall cascades and water fountains, you may find a sit beside the lake and enjoy the gorgeous waterfall while picnicking. It is also refreshing to have a walk along the path around the Inspiration Lake.

Penny’s Bay, Lantau Island, Hong Kong
