The 40th Hong Kong International Film Festival

A good news to all film buffs: The 40th Hong Kong International Film Festival has been kick-started today!

From 21st March 2016 until 4th April 2016, a series of events across the whole film industry is going to be held in Hong Kong. Hong Kong’s massive retrospectives and bi-lingual publications have helped the local movies to establish their reputation on the international stage. The festival has long been a golden platform for giving rise to new film talents in the film industry, from the Hong Kong New Wave filmmakers like Ann Hui, Tsui Hark, Allen Fong, Philippines masters Lino Brocka and Mike de Leon in the late 1970s, through the Chinese new waves of filmmakers Hou Hsiao-hsien, Edward Yang, Chen Kaige and Zhang Yimou in the 1980s, to contemporary game changers like Apitchatpong Weerathasakul. The festival is definitely a pioneer in presenting Asian cinema to the world, as well as a significant milestone to all Asian filmmakers.

Actors, directors, screenwriters and film enthusiasts from all over the world will gather in this oldest Asian film festival. This largest cultural event reaches an audience of more than 600,000 every year. Films titled from over 5o countries are screened in more than 10 major cultural venues across the territory. Venues include the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, Hong Kong City Hall, the HK Space Museum, and the HK Science Museum.
